On February 1, 2010 US Airways will cut its flight schedule by 60%, leaving only 26 mainline flights a day at McCarran Airport! This reduction will lead to the loss of nearly 400 jobs at US Airways alone. If you are currently employed at McCarran Airport your job may be in jeopardy as well. All business establishments in the A & B gates will be affected by this reduction of flights. There will be lay-offs and reductions in work hours. Who we are.

We are a coalition of concerned parties led by the Las Vegas based pilots of US Airways as represented by the US Airline Pilots Association.

What is our mission?

Perhaps you have heard that US Airways has announced drastic service cuts into, and out of the Las Vegas McCarran International Airport.

Our mission is to convince US Airways management to reverse its plans, which include essentially abandoning the Las Vegas market.  This requested course reversal will  likely  save hundreds of jobs in the Las Vegas valley.

Why are we doing this?

There are many reasons why US Airways should not retreat from Las Vegas.  Besides the fact that this is bad business and (we believe) the wrong decision, at precisely the wrong time, there are MANY jobs a stake.  These jobs go well beyond the employees of US Airways, and threaten to put hundreds more out of work, at a time when unemployment is already at an all-time high.  This will add an increasing burden to an already overtaxed unemployment system locally.  All of this at a time when we believe our market is poised for a dramatic turnaround.

How will we do this?

We aim to convince US Airways that it has made a poor decision by creating a chorus of influential voices to show the company why this reduction is a poor decision. Few business decisions are irreversible, and at a bare minimum, US Airways must delay its plan to slash flights and close its pilot base  long enough to carefully reevaluate the situation. Unless we are successful, this business plan comes with the loss of hundreds of jobs in the Las Vegas Valley.
